I had to sit and wait for my daugher for hours yesterday so took some stitching things with me This is a combination of random stitches with no pattern in mind at all and now it reminds me of one of those masks lol For some reason i have a tendency for whatever i start on one side i think i have to try to match up on the other, i really wish i didnt do that Ive used french knots, fly, blanket, straight ,back stitch and spider webs. I started out thinking about a rock challenge that was on flickr where you use 2 pieces of material and imbed stuff, add lots of stitches and then fold it, stuff it and make like a rock lol So i did one spider web and then found a seed pod that i placed between. I didnt mean anything to look like eyes or a face or whatever and i should have imbedded more little things. Now i dont know which way is up or what the heck i'm going to do with it I'll put the next pic below

That's a neat piece of stitching!
Funny thing - you've put the images both ways up and they still look like masks - one with a pointy chin and one with a pointy head.
Try not to think of a mask when you look at it closely, and it's a rockpool on the beach.

It's interesting what we each see when looking at a piece of work. The first thing I thought of was a butterfly with the central raised body. I like the subtle colours. Great idea to have stitching with you when you are waiting.
Maybe if you leave it somewhere where you can see it out of the corner of your eye as you go about your business for a few days it will seep into your subconscious and you will think of what to do with it. I sometimes do this if I am thinking about where to go with a piece of work and normally something crops up.

yep looks like a masquerade ball mask to me both ways up. I like it. Doesn't the hiding princess always get to wear the white on white mask? We are programed to find facial features in things. It why we see a man in the moon and many other places.

Nothing wrong with symmetry Karen - Most of the samples I've been working on for class are symmetrical. If you don't want it to look face/mask like, perhaps you can keep adding more around the design. Add more spider webs so you have more circular features and then the two in the middle will look less like eyes. Or you could add a body behind it and it could be a chameleon. Very nice work and I love to take my stitching with me as well.

Karen, I think it is beautiful and you should be very proud of it. It does look like a mask to me either way, so maybe that is what it wants to be! It really is gorgeous.
