I recently wrote a post over on our studio website about Kantha embroidery. feltingandfiberstudio.com/2012/03/11/kantha-embroidery/I mentioned that I was working on a little bird of my own design. The bird is based on a nuthatch (I think) that was outside my window. I finished the bird today so here he is. The entire piece was done with running stitch or Kantha embroidery. It's amazing the designs that can be achieved with one simple stitch. Sorry about the size of the photos but at least you can see the details!

Thanks everyone! Karen and Zed, that's fine about the photo. I didn't have time to shrink it down. Judith, the stitching part took about 8 hours. However, the design and planning part took 3-4 days. I have about 10 pages of planning in my sketchbook.

That's a beautiful design, The head of the bird is awesome. It's amazing that you can get such a life like shape and expression with just one stitch and two colors.
