I think it keeps you interested if you experiment yourself, and teaches that you get the results that you did because you did X, Y, and Z, whereas "use this wool, that fabric and it will 'work'" just makes people think they failed if they deviate slightly and don't get the eaxact same results. Trying to talk French is very tiring, I still haven't learnt many felting terms

Yeah, exactly, Elizabeth. And it drives me nuts when you see people saying certain fabrics or fibres 'don't work' or 'don't felt' when really they mean didn't work how they wanted or didn't attach completely. Yeah there are fabrics which will not attach no matter how hard you try, and if you pile fibres on, a lot will fall off, but fabrics which don't attach fully give a different result and effect to ones which do (and you might want that effect) and not every fibre has to act or be used the way silk top is on scarves.
I'm going to work on the assumption that if people want to do the courses and learn felting, they want to experiment and understand so they can realise their own ideas.

Hi Zed et al! Stick with your assumption your right! I'm new to felting other than playing around in the 70th & 80's. I'm in love all over again, with the magic of felting. I see everything and think... I wonder if that will felt? I have tried differ fabrics, fiber, yarns, embellishments, resists and some fail (kind of). It's the process of no hard expectations & simply watching whatever Ive laid out, hide-layer,needled in/through...the completed felt result/effect is part of the magic and journey. Almost anything can be manipulated someway/somehow to have me respond with... Ummmm ahhh, yeah!!! I meant to do that! It's the magic of felting!!! LOL (my daughters(22&27) loveingly giggle saying "we love the crazy creative you but please refrain from cutting swatches out of my clothes!" Learning is experimenting!! P.S. I love you book!

Thanks, debralee It sounds as though you're like me and will never get out of the 'experimenting stage'. One of the class members has constant ideas and is always asking 'will this felt', I've started saying to bring it in and try it!

Here's a bit of an update: I've been down to the new centre to work out the classes there, we're going to start on Feb 17th and have about 6 weeks of drop in/casual/taster sessions to get people interested. I'll be going to the usual Old Trafford one until then and trying to get some more interest in more 'structured' and 'themed' courses and find a slot for them that suits people, and then do the felting at each centre alternately.
And hopefully with something more structured to offer people we can publicise it better and get more attendance.

I forgot to take photos last week, our first week. There were 9 of us. We didn't have much room (2 of those tables you use, Ann, for all of us) but we managed. We made nuno pieces for flowers. This week, we made pieces like those I showed the other day, but there were only 5 of us this time, though we did have a few spectators and an extra table: Wet Felting Class par Zedster01, on ipernity

Keep on, Zed, with the good work! Even if you only have 5 students, that’s 5 happy people!

Zed I love what you are doing - some really pretty designs - wish supplies were readily available here so more people would get interested.

I am glad people are enjoying it. The pieces look good so far. It is hard to remember to take pictures when you are busy with people.

Lovely set-up Zed and some pretty pieces emerging. Top right of the photo - is that a pretty felt bowl?
