One more month until the 3rd Quarter Challenge is over! That’s what I realized this morning. And I have not been felting this month maybe because of the heat. Weather forecast in Chicago is for another week in the 90’s. YUK. I’ve done a bit of embroidery and a bit of eco-printing with garden leaves this past month, but I don’t have the inspiration right now for a felting project.
What are your fiber plans for September? What gets you motivated to try new felting projects? Does weather play a part in your motivation?

You've got something there Cathy, I couldn't felt in the heat but in Scotland I don't have that problem, for me I have ideas running around in my head but then I don't have time (I work as well) or I don't have space, if I do have time I have to dig everything out then put it all away again!!! things that work for me are having deadlines or running a class and wanting to try out new ideas before the class.

Carole, I'm living your life in Texas, except for teaching classes. I still have a lot to learn!

Today I laid out a pill box hat and matching fingerless mitts, and 2 scarfletts. I hope to make another style of hat and maybe a full scarf to match. I need to make more matching items. What gets me moving in the heat is panic. My next show is to close and I am not ready.

Deadlines are a great motivator, I agree! Being retired, I have no deadlines currently; but I will be starting an on-line Composition class soon with Fiona Duthie. That should be a game-changer!

Like Ann, I think I need to make more matching items (scafves with a hat, or gloves). I've just finished a big project - a jacket which took me about a week to complete. I'll post about it when the buttons are attached. Winter is slowly approaching and hopefully there will be more demand for warm woolen things.

You’ve touched on an important point, Nada, about demand for woolen items increasing as it gets colder.

Weather, time and energy are all factors in what I do or don't do. I had a dyeing day on Sunday, and got some Kent Romney lambswool, carded lambswool, some BFL and a bit of Fox sheep wool dyed. I got up on Monday and thought I was lucky to feel well enough to dye some nylon, but just as I was finishing I got a massive migraine aura so couldn't see a thing. I spent the rest of the day in a recliner watching Miss Fisher mysteries (thanks for reminding me, Leonor!). I was lucky enough to feel much better on Tuesday...until just after breakfast when the vertigo kicked in It was the first day of the Well Being felting art therapy yesterday. It was packed and chaotic but everyone enjoyed themselves, and they all loved the batts I made from the donated wool, so thanks again to everyone who donated

Now that I’ve cleaned up my eco-printing mess of soggy leaves and sad-looking cloth, I am back to felting today. I have a small custom order to fill, and then I am re-organizing my shades of merino wool. I need 16 different shades for an upcoming Fiona Duthie class. More on that later!

Zed, I'm so glad you felt good enough for your well being class. I totally understand "non" days,. I've had many if my own recently. Stay well!
Cathy, I've got to get going as well on my class colors. Thanks for the reminder.

Sorry to hear you had some bad days Zed. It is good that you got to the well being class.
I didn't get anything done today. I spent a few hours getting my police check for working with vulnerable populations. It only took about 30 seconds for her to do it but it took a long time to get to the wicket. Then it was take care of the animals that were several hours late getting take care of.

Zed, I know what those auras are like. I used to run for cover when I saw one coming on. Maybe age and hormones have put a stop to them. I heard recently that people have had success in stopping a migraine by giving themselves an 'ice cream headache'. Something about that just sounds right to me. And it's not just the bonus of eating ice cream! Stay strong and do good work!!

Thanks, everyone That olden days cure of a nail in the skull to relieve pressure sounds like a good idea most days, maybe the ice cream headache is a safer option to try though It's a shame there's so much pain and other stuff with the auras because otherwise they're quite entertaining. I'm carding up some odds and ends today that the other felter from the well-being centre had left over from a previous project.

This is what I made yesterday (see above), and it’s difficult to explain how I came up with this concoction. It’s white mystery wool with two shades of Navajo Churro, along with elderberry-dyed domestic 56’s. I really feel like I must have been thinking about Zara’s wonderful fleeces. By the end of wet-felting, I was thinking about one of those roller machines on the banner.
