In looking at your fiber pack on Etsy, my first reaction was, “great job!” Very enticing, well laid out. My second reaction was, do one in blue and green and gold, etc. People like choices. Congrats on your sale!

Thanks, Jill, Cathy and Marilyn That's the biggest problem, Jill, having to do all the work for individual packs. I have thought of doing a variety of different coloured packs and explaining that the photos are a representation only and each pack will vary slightly, that would certainly help cut down on the work and save having to put them together until ordered. I just don't have the supplies though. If I thought it'd be worth my while, I'd buy them, but it would be a massive outlay of money, not to mention time spent carding wool and dyeing the fibres, and factoring time lost through time spent (M.E. payback, you lose at least twice as much time recovering from any activity you do) and then finding people willing to pay to even just cover costs and putting it together isn't easy. It seems like the kind of thing which could work more effectively, timewise and costwise as a kind of scheme or club. Maybe something like that or the 'standard' pack is for further in the future, I'll work with what I have for now when I feel upto it and see how much interest there is

The other idea I had was for 'Customisable' packs, something standard like 110g wool + 20g various fibres + variety of fabric pieces in whichever colours the buyers wants, standard price for the contents plus custom making/putting together fee. It'd be more expensive than the other packs, but more time consuming, and no outlay of time etc until ordered.

Sounds like a good idea for the custom packs Zed!

Your idea about a "club" is not that crazy. there used to be a Canadian fiber box one where you got a different fiber in different states every month. She only stopped because she got quite sick with an auto immune disease. That softsilk (I think that's the one) on face book does fiber boxes every month.

Well, that's one of my problems too, the auto immune condition, why I can't commit to something bigger, or plan stuff etc. It'd be different if I had help.
It might sound counter-productive, but I think it'd have to be something 'bigger' than a monthly thing, more like quarterly or even twice yearly, that way there's more money up front for supplies and variety, customers aren't spending such a large portion of the cost on postage as it's always cheaper the larger the package, and there's more time to get things done without panic.
I think any of my ideas would work better in the US though, there's not much incentive for people here when World of Wool is so cheap and it's easy to dye your own stuff.

Zed, I totally agree with the club idea. I think quarterly would be better than monthly. That would give the recipients time to play with the fibers. I was in a papers and altered art club once and found that monthly was too overwhelming. I think it would do well in the US. Good luck - I love all your tutorials and packages!

Sorry, I missed your reply, elizabeth. Maybe if I ever move to the US, I'll re-think about it I spent a day last week working out 'standard' contents/weights for packs so it was easy to alter by adding a tutorial etc and how to price for custom etc, but after getting really ill again from the extra 'exertion' (dyeing), I'm going to try and accept my limitations and just forget it. Do a pack or kit every now and again, maybe. I think I got carried away because the pink pack sold, out of all the fibre packs I've ever listed, probably half haven't sold. It's so much time and energy for very little reward too, and what it takes away in time and energy, I'd rather use on other things like actual felting.
