That’s a good idea, Frances…I will be grabbing one of my cotton quilts today (not heirloom!) for felting. Chicago temps: 16 degrees F.

It really helped with the warmth - but then I had a soggy quilt but just threw it in the dryer - will wash the soap drippings out of it when the cold weather passes

I sometimes use the microwave to re-heat. In summer I hang my bubble wrap on the washing line and in winter I drape it over the radiator in the downstairs loo. Towels go on a radiator, and any really thick felt such as a vessel sits on or under a radiator.

Koffipot--it just occurred to me that hanging your wet stuff on or near a radiator would help raise the humidity a bit. That’s the only reason I miss radiators, which we had all over our large house until we sold it 8 years ago. Of course, I wasn’t felting then. Raising the humidity is a challenge for some us here in the States.

Update on felting in frigid weather: It was 9F degrees this morn when I awakened, but I really wanted to finish my bark collage and get on with the wrist warmers I am making as Christmas gifts for a few lucky folks (ha ha). So I looked at all of the above suggestions, and got a large pot of boiling water on the stove, thereby increasing the humidity in the kitchen as I felted. Also, the room got a bit warmer without raising the heating thermometer. And then I realized I could scoop the hot water from the pot, a bit at a time, to keep my felting liquid hot without using the microwave AND warming up the bark collage as I felted it with bubble wrap--no rolling. Every time it got a little cool, I just splashed hot water on top of the bubble wrap, then put another layer of bubble wrap on top so I didn’t burn my hands when felting. Pretty proud of myself, too!

The pot of water is a great tip - did you put a quilt down too?

Originally, I did try the quilt doubled up with another project, but for the pod, it seemed too cushy or spongy underneath, so I just used the rug mat on top of a towel with bubble wrap as usual. It’s great to have a variety of aids when felting in cold weather!
