Marilyn and Ruth, thank you for sharing so many good ideas. I once used flat-bottom beads which I glued to a piece of gauze and then covered the whole thing with wool and felted the piece. In the end I made an opening to reveal the beads but it seems that the glue was not strong enough so the beads fell out. I glued them again and it was fine. Shisha mirror looks fine however requires quite a lot of embroidery skills.

Very lovely samples of inclusions Marilyn. I especially like the one where the sea shell left its impression in the felt. Neat. Like Ruth said there is so many ways to add sea shells. Below is the photo of my one section of seascape.. The other one is inclusion many objects in my sea flower.. Have fun Frances with your project... feltingandfiberstudio.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/un5zmdvpu_jgza9qfzzl.jpg

Have fun Frances. I look forward to seeing your shell creation.
Thanks Nada and Judy. The nice part about felt is that is so versatile.

Ann if you want nepps I can send you some. They are harder to felt than you'd think.

Thanks Ann, for your lovely comment. Much appreciated. I learned that just putting a very very fine layer of wool over them keeps them put. Then I sometime cut away a bit of this fine wool after the piece is dry to reveal more of them.

As Zed points out, Shisha mirror attachment looks complicated but it isn't really that hard to do. There are several videos on Youtube as well that are good. And it looks really cool when you're finished as Zed's sample demonstrates

I've finished my notebook covers, if you're interested I uploaded them to ipernity: www.ipernity.com/doc/zedster01the green silk one looked a bit bland with the felt band cut off, so I added a flap closure. I managed to keep one of the ends for an inside sleeve though.
