Frances, if you look at my first post on this thread, that is a cat mat in navy blue wool with hemp fibers for embellishment. I mostly make cat mats for experiments, but my cats love them! As Shepherdess says, cats love wool! Whenever I complete a cat mat and leave it out to dry, the cats quickly find their way to the mat and sleep on it!

So, Zed, have you used the hemp to add strength to your felt projects, or have you used it mostly as embellishment? Do you know which sheep breeds it works with best? I've just used them for embellishment/decoration. It depends what look you're after which breed it will work best with. As a rule of thumb, it will be affected by the characteristics of the wool and behave accordingly when felted. Other things which affect it will be how much you use, whether you use it as 'top'/fluffed up/blended and whether you use wisps or not. This is hemp used with Suffolk
