In my quest to continue to "finish" things, this week I worked on not only organizing (not done) but also finishing some encaustic art I had made during a class more than a year ago. They were sitting in my cabinet needing a coat of paint on the sides so I could hang them. Another lesson learned, I would paint first or let the wax drip over the side to cover them. Although there wasn't much spillover, I didn't think it would be a problem. But the acrylic paint didn't adhere very well in spots. I had to do several coats before I was satisfied.
I grouped these together because of the similarity of colors. The larger one and lower right have gold sides. The smaller one had more white/silver so I painted the sides silver. This works in my house since I have gold and silver accents in the room where these will hang. A friend of mine told me the large one reminded her of irises. Not surprising it's one of my favorite flowers. The lower right has handmade paper in gold imbedded paper and a stamp of an iris. Surprise. I love the texture of all of them, each is different, but the small one is really textured. It was harder to photograph then I thought. The wax has a sheen so the light always seem to be coming from one direction or another.
This was done with actual imbedded branches that I waxed over in gold. I'm not sure how much detail is evident. I also used a screen at the bottom for an impression of a fence. I used oil sticks for accents over the screen impression.
This is another smaller one I experimented with torn papers (leaves) and stamped papers for the plants. I feel better now that they are finished and can be hung. I really enjoyed the class and could like to do some of this at home using fibers and paper, but I'll have to wait until my workspace is ventilated or I take another class. On to my next project to finish. What do you think?
