No Ruth, you are not crazy I remember reading about the carrier rods. Must have been on one of blogs we both follow

Lyn, I tried nepps (knobs) twice and also followed your advice, but they just don't stick. Zed, I looked at your photos re carrier rods and saw lots of interesting ideas. Thank you for sharing. I will be playing with the embellishments more in the future. Here is just one example, using carrier rods and Gotland Cross curls as well as Angelina heat bond (all purchased from Sara's Texture Crafts). Angelina is probably not seen in this picture but it shines like little stars. I like it although it is quite tricky and needs anchoring.

Very nice and great ruffles around the edge.

I think we all just had a discussion about it once, how long we left them to soak etc That's nice, Halay, I can see the Angelina It reminds me of Labradorite mineral, it can look like not much until the light catches it, then you get fire and a play of light.

I can see the Angelina too. Nice sparkle. I really like the colors. I've always had issues with nepps too. I don't use them much.

Halay, the scarf is beautiful. Yes, the Angelina makes it sparkle. I will have to play with nepps to see how they react. I was going to dye some first but maybe I'll try them plain first. I guess we could always use them in mixed media pieces if they refuse to felt. Not much goes to waste here. :-)

I did something on dyeing carrier rods on the other site and surprise, surprise, it's disappeared! However, they weren't the type on my photo above. They were those crumpled ones which look a bit like scrunched up cardboard! lol I've had mixed success with nepps, they takes ages to felt in. If you're using them as a contrast and want some sharpness the effect can be lost if you put wisps over them.

I've carded nepps to rough them up a bit to encourage felting, it does work, but takes ages to get little bits of nepps out of the carders
